Adopt a School Program
Since 2005, Trinity Presbyterian Church has founded and coordinated several programs in cooperation with Townsend Street Elementary School, our neighborhood school. This program is intended to benefit not only the school's students, but the future of the Sherman Park community.
God's Garden School Component
Teaching Townsend 5th graders important lessons about agriculture and respecting the land and its bounty isthe focus of God's Garden. During the school year, Students experience several basic science lessons on plant growth in the classroom to demonstrate scientific tenants such as observation, data collection and data analysis. These lessons build on each other and culminate in the spring planting of the garden. One goal of this project is to enable urban youth to experience the joy and wonder of planting, tending and enjoying produce and flowers from their garden. Along with the valuable lessons the students receive, the neighborhood benefitsfrom a beautiful garden located next to our church.
If you are interested in volunteering to participate in any of these programs, please contact Sue Volkman at 414-871-9440 or at
Vacation Bible School
We gather on summer evenings to learn stories of Christ's love and to grow as a faith community in the Sherman Park neighborhood. See the photo “gallery” for pictures of past VBS.
God's Garden
The empty lot down the block from the church that had once served as the neighborhood dump has been transformed into a beautiful community garden since 2002. Trinity Presbyterian Church, in conjunction with the surrounding neighbors, and Townsend Community School, has propagated a green space in our urban landscape.
